Blackhat SEO - Does Pingback Spam Work as a Blackhat Trick?

Lots of people, including many seasoned black hat SE spammers do not fully understand the Wordpress, (wp), pingback feature. Now, I am not a pingback-techie, but I did study the specifications and do quite a bit of testing some time ago. Mostly I wanted to understand the difference between pingback and trackback.

There are several significant differences:

Trackbacks:
1. Trackbacks are done manually.
2. The special trackback URL must be used for sending.
3. The Sender needs to write an “excerpt” (the actual comment).

Pingbacks:
1. Pingbacks are fully automated by the blogging software.
2. The recipient of a pingback, the target blog software, checks for a link from the sending blog.
3. The pingback software creates the excerpt based on about 25 words before and after the link.

So, the question in my mind now is can pingbacks be utilized as a wordpress value added tool, in other words, to spread the word to the masses quickly and efficiently. :)

Shall we use this blog to launch an experiment?

    Yes! Yes! Yes!

I say do an experiment right here on your blog!

Pingbacks: Linkbacks are validated… then moderated … then published.
Pingback sucks but to get one step closer you could resolve the IP of every domain you pingback spam and actually cloak some valid looking links for that very IP to see.
This gives you a head start and a mass accepting moderator will get you pingback right in.

Trackbacks … most are also moderated so … they are slowly fading into oblivion.
